The average cost for an attorney in Los Angeles is $350/hour. Most criminal law attorneys charge flat fees of $2500-$10,000 to take on your case. These costs simply aren’t affordable for the average person. At JCLS, it is our mission to make sure that all individuals with low and middle incomes have affordable access to justice.

Our fees range from $65-$125/hour, which is far below the market average. By operating as non-profit organization, certified as a 501(c)(3) corporation by the IRS, and doing away with all of the “bells and whistles” found at a traditional law firm, we are able to minimize our overhead and in turn provide low-cost legal services to those in need. We provide our services on a sliding scale based on income and family size to ensure that our clients are being charged based on their ability to pay.

Legal Aid and public defenders provide wonderful and much needed services, however many people earn too much to qualify for these legal services. Additionally, the attorneys at Legal Aid and the Public Defender’s office are extremely overworked and as a result, they are not able to provide their clients with the individualized and undivided attention that they deserve. At JCLS, it is our mission to step in and fill the gap for those who earn too much to qualify for pro bono legal services, but who can not afford the costs of a traditional law firm.

Just because we provide low cost services, does not mean that our clients receive lesser services. Our attorneys are committed to providing compassionate, assertive, and client-centered representation to each and every one of our clients. From the initial intake throughout the entire course of representation with JCLS, our clients have constant and continuous access to their attorney.
